George Schwacha was a student of John Grabach at the Art Students League. He exhibited widely during his career at museums and institutions such as the Corcoran Gallery of Art and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. He also received many prizes for his work,

 

including the Water Color Society in 1944, Allied American Artists in 1945 and the gold medal from the Audubon Society in 1961. His work is represented in over 30 museums and public collections including the Mint Museum of Art and the Elizabeth Ney Museum.

A fine, spontaneous work, with fresh colors, on heavy watercolor paper. A mat line, from the original mat, at the image edges; tape stain at the sheet edges, verso; otherwise in excellent condition.
