Born in Nagato Japan, Bumpei Usui was a painter, printmaker and sculptor. Living in New York City and Woodstock, he was a member of the Woodstock Art Association. He exhibited his sculpture from 1924 through 1931 and showed in the Salons of America, 1924-34; Art Institute of Chicago Annual, 1938; Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, 1938; and the Federal Arts Project, Washington, DC, 1938.
